Where are you from?
I currently live in Arizona. We moved to Arizona from North Carolina where we lived for 5 years. I was born and raised in South Africa though. We love traveling and seeing the world and I have been very fortunate to have lived in the Netherlands (7 years), the UK (13 years) and now the USA.
How did you get into running?
I started running six and a half years ago because my husband is a runner, and I was curious to see if I could do it as an amputee. I wasn't a runner before losing my leg, so this was an exciting new challenge for me. It definitely was challenging because I had to run with a running prosthetic, but I am so glad I had the courage to give it a shot, because running truly did change my life.
What do you love about running?
I love how it makes me feel. Free, strong, and fearless. it has also given me the confidence to be who I am and given me a love for my body. I was often ashamed of what I looked like as an amputee and running helped me accept myself for who I am.
Where do you train the most?
I mostly train on the trails, but I will mix it up with some road and treadmill running, depending on time, because often I need to fit in my run between kids' school drop off and school homework etc.
What running milestone are you looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to building my dream of running Western States. I have a few 100 milers coming up which are all Western States qualifiers.
What's your go-to Altra Shoe?
My favorite shoe for trail running is the Lone Peak 7 and for road running I have always loved the Escalante; but I am loving the new Rivera 3 so I think that might be my new favorite road shoe.
