They didn't mean to start a company, but when no one else would make the shoe they needed...

What sounds so simple went against everything the running industry stood for.
Helping runners to keep running.
Altra was founded on the belief that running was for relieving stress, not putting more stress on your body. That runners deserved a shoe that could help them run healthier, run further, run faster, and run for a lifetime.
These shoes are what became Altra.
From humble beginnings in the back of a running store, they were tested and refined in running's toughest conditions.
Now, Altra can be seen at every level across the globe.
To us, running has never just been running.
It's an escape, a challenge, a community... it's a slingshot for the rest
of your life.
